Kevin Root, President

I am Kevin Root (he/him/his), President of RRUSA. I am currently a graduate student completing a blended Master of Science in the Environment and Management program at RRU. I am passionate about sharing, empowering and educating to advance our understanding of biodiversity, sustainability, resilience, and climate change. This is a global stewardship issue of significant impact that demands immediate attention and action, as it is not limited to Canada but affects communities worldwide. Students should reach out to me to open discussions about a variety of topics—whether it’s advocating for a specific personal, local or regional need, or just getting a sense of who you are and where you would like to go as an emerging influencer and changemaker, let’s connect!

My name is Hafsa Altaf, and I serve as the Vice President of Student Affairs on the RRUSA Board of Directors. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management at Royal Roads. As both a student and entrepreneur, I am passionate about innovation, creative industries, and building meaningful opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and grow. My work sits at the intersection of business, creativity, and community, and I care deeply about helping students feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their academic journey. Students are encouraged to reach out to discuss their ideas and experiences to explore ways we can strengthen the RRUSA community.

Michael Hoang, Vice President Finance & Services

My name is Michael Hoang, and I am currently an MBA student serving as your VP of Finance and Services at RRUSA. With over 20 years of global professional experience, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of fiduciary responsibility and financial stewardship for our student association. I am passionate about building resilience in our student community and ensuring RRUSA’s resources are managed with transparency and accountability. Saurabh Singh, Director-At-Large

My name is Saurabh Singh, and I serve as Director-at-Large with RRUSA. I am currently completing my Master of Global Management at RRU. With nearly two decades of experience spanning program management, business intelligence, consulting, and organizational development, I bring a strategic and results-driven perspective to student governance. I am passionate about amplifying student voices, driving meaningful change, and fostering a collaborative community where every student feels supported. John Bruzas, Director-At-Large

My name is John, and I am currently enrolled in the blended Justice Studies Program at RRU. I became a RRUSA board member because of a natural tendency to volunteer in the spirit of volunteerism. As a Director-at-Large on the RRUSA Board of Directors, I provide the board with generalized guidance and support, focusing on the overall strategic direction of the organization. Because At-Large Directors do not adhere to a defined portfolio, I can offer flexible and broad support across the organization's goals.

My name is Vanny von Baron (she/her) and I am an MBA student at Royal Roads University and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Liaison with RRUSA. I’m passionate about building inclusive, supportive campus spaces and helping students feel seen and represented. Students should seek me out to talk about the 2SLGBTQIA+ student experience at Royal Roads, or to volunteer with RRUSA at Victoria Pride, Vancouver Pride, or Calgary Pride events! 

Monique Brown, Equity & Inclusion Liaison

My name is Monique Brown, and I serve as the Equity and Inclusion Liaison for RRUSA. I am currently completing a Master of Arts in Leadership, with a focus on inclusive, relational, and systems-informed leadership. I am passionate about accessibility, equity, and creating safer, more inclusive learning environments for all students. Students should seek me out for support navigating barriers, advocating for access and accommodation, sharing lived experiences, or discussing equity-related concerns. I am here to listen, connect you to resources, and help ensure student voices are meaningfully represented.

Apurva Dubey, Interdisciplinary Studies Representative

My name is Apurva Dubey, and I serve as the College of Interdisciplinary Studies Representative on the RRUSA Board of Directors. I am a project management professional with experience in administration, coordination, and systems-focused work, and I bring a thoughtful, student-centred lens to RRUSA governance. Interdisciplinary studies can be challenging and deeply rewarding; no one should feel alone in that journey.
