Info for New Members 2022

If you are enrolled in an undergraduate program, starting your studies in January 2022 and are in an on-campus or blended program, you are a RRUSA member! (Note: a program moving to online studies due to COVID-19 does not affect your membership status)

Being a RRUSA member gives you a number of different benefits depending on your program’s delivery method. Click here for more details about member benefits.

StudentCare – Extended Health & Dental Plan

Who is covered? Undergraduate students in a full-time on-campus program will be automatically enrolled in the StudentCare plan (part of your ancillary fees). This includes students in the Global Learning and Language Center programs (GLLC). If you are unsure whether you qualify, please check your ‘my admin’ account to see if you were charged the plan fees.

Does my plan start right away? If this is your first year in your program you will experience a blackout period where your coverage will not yet be verified. However, you can still use your benefits during this time and then submit claims after the blackout period has ended. View more info about the blackout period.

What if I already have extended coverage? If you already have extended health coverage through a workplace, spouse, or parent, you can opt-out during the change-of-coverage period to receive a credit in your student account. The opt-out period for January intake students is Jan. 3 – Feb. 4, 2022. View this page to learn how to opt-out.

Can I enroll a child or spouse? The plan gives you the option to enroll a dependent child and/or spouse during the change of coverage period. For new January intake students, the change of coverage period is Jan. 3 – Feb. 4, 2022. Click here to see fees, dates, and how to enroll family members.

What if I am an international student? If you are an international student enrolled in the StudentCare plan, please click here to view your options.

U-Pass Winter 2022 Update

The U-Pass is a mandatory Transit pass for full-time on-campus undergraduate students unless your courses for Winter 2022 will be offered online due to COVID-19. For programs that have moved online, students may apply for an exemption with Student Services.

RRU, RRUSA, and BC Transit have agreed to the following for the Winter 2022 term:

“Royal Roads University students who are members of RRUSA and are assessed student association fees at the on-campus student rate are able to opt-out to the U-Pass program based on the criteria that reside and work outside the Victoria Regional Transit System for the winter 2022 term.

Note: The UPASS will not be processed if eligible members have not opted-in before the deadlines given in the Student Services email.

For any questions regarding the BC Transit U-Pass, please email upass@rrusa.ca.
