While formal election policies and procedures are being developed by the Board, the Executive Committee has approved election procedures to reduce confusion and guide decision-making. A brief summary of these procedures is provided below:

Nominations

  • Only students enrolled in member programs may run for office.
  • Students may nominate themselves for positions available in the election.
  • Nominations for collective representative positions must be made by students who self-identify with that collective.
  • Nominations for school representative positions may only be made by students in programs that are within that school.

Campaigns

  • Candidates running for office may only campaign if they have attended a candidate orientation session.
  • Physical campaign materials must be removed from campus within 72 hours after the voting period closes.
  • Campaign donations, if any, may only be used for materials directly related to a candidate’s campaign.
  • A candidate must not use any RRUSA resources, equipment, spaces, services, or supplies in their campaign activities

Voting

  • All members of the Association have the right to vote in an election provided they are in good standing.
  • Members of the Association only have one vote per election.
  • All voting in elections shall be done by means of a secret ballot.
  • Voting by proxy in an election is not permitted.
