Awards Essay Guide

Writing a strong awards application essay is key to winning awards and scholarships. Recognizing that writing an awards essay can be challenging, RRUSA has prepared a few tips to consider.

Formatting

Requirements:

  • One (1) letter-sized page.
  • Full name in top right corner of page.
  • Minimum font size of 12 points.
  • Exported and uploaded in PDF format.
  • Set document name as “Last Name, First Name”

Keep in mind:

  • Maximize space by placing your name within the page header and using single line spacing.
  • APA 7 formatting or other formal writing styles are not required.
  • Essays are limited to a single letter-sized page, extra pages are removed.
  • Common fonts such as Arial, Calbiri and Times New Roman are encouraged.

Do not:

  • Submit extra pages or attach documentation.
  • Reduce font size, adjust page margins or change page type to make more space.
  • Include a title page or references.
  • Use in-text citations or linked text.
  • Include an address block, salutation, or signature.
