While formal election policies and procedures are being developed by the Board, the Executive Committee has approved election procedures to reduce confusion and guide decision-making. A brief summary of these procedures is provided below:
Nominations
- Only students enrolled in member programs may run for office.
- Students may nominate themselves for positions available in the election.
- Nominations for collective representative positions must be made by students who self-identify with that collective.
- Nominations for school representative positions may only be made by students in programs that are within that school.
Campaigns
- Candidates running for office may only campaign if they have attended a candidate orientation session.
- Physical campaign materials must be removed from campus within 72 hours after the voting period closes.
- Campaign donations, if any, may only be used for materials directly related to a candidate’s campaign.
- A candidate must not use any RRUSA resources, equipment, spaces, services, or supplies in their campaign activities
Voting
- All members of the Association have the right to vote in an election provided they are in good standing.
- Members of the Association only have one vote per election.
- All voting in elections shall be done by means of a secret ballot.
- Voting by proxy in an election is not permitted.
